Each October, Christians around the world remember the life and legacy of St. Francis of Assisi, a 12th and 13th century monk and priest who renewed the church with a heart for the poor and marginalized. St. Francis also had a deep love for animals and taught that all of creation was filled with God. On a Sunday close to his feast day (October 4), we gather in Ellis Hall for a special worship service with the blessing of the animals at 9:00 a.m. Families are invited to bring their pets to church, along with stuffed animals or photos in the case of homebound or unruly creature friends. Afterwards, the children's formation classes participate in a service project for the humane society. Our Primary & Junior Choirs lead the music and offer special songs at this service.
