Just like there are different genres of music, there are different genres of prayer. Some that may quickly come to mind include prayers of thanksgiving, praise, confession, and petition (asking for help). Probably the least familiar kind of prayer, but one that occurs throughout the scriptures, is prayers of lament.
Lament is the act of expressing our griefs, our sorrows, and sometimes our anger to God. The Bible has an entire book devoted to this, called, "Lamentations." In it, the people of God cry and shout out to God in the wake of the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.
This week, use this guided meditation to offer your lament to God. It may help beforehand to write down or make a mental list of the things you are sad, depressed, or angry about, and then offer those things to God as you pray along with the recording below.
